20th Anniversary

LIBERTAS FOUNDATION
is a nonprofit public benefit corporation established in San Pedro in December of 1991 and officially endorsed and filed in California on Januray 30,1992

It is organized and operated exclusively for public and charitable purposes and has established its tax-exempt status under Internal Revenue Code Section 501 (c) (3).

The public and charitable purposes of the corporation are to provide food, clothing and other relief to the victims of war in Croatia.

MIŠO BARIČEVIĆ

MIŠO BARIČEVIĆ

Miso Baricevic was born in Dubrovnik in 1951, where he finished high school. From an early age he showed interest in painting, and along with several Dubrovnik painters (Mijatoviae, Masle, Trostmann, Škerlj) acquired a proper artistic education. He has had a couple of solo exhibitions so far, and has taken part in several important and recent group exhibitions and prestigious art colonies. He currently works as a painter in the Marin Držiae Theatre. He has contributed with his artistic work to making sets for the theatrical plays of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival and is also known for his work as a set designer, decorator, art editor and contributor to art journals. He has participated in many auctions and humanitarian exhibitions. Baricevic painted a mural at the Sponza Palace (in cooperation with J. Škerlj) for the opening ceremony of the 44 Dubrovnik Summer Festival. He is the member of the Zagreb Artists

VINKO BAZDAN

VINKO BAZDAN

Vinko Bazdan was born in Topolo (Dubrovnik littoral area) in 1945. His interest in painting started ten years ago, and since then his works have shown a large potential. The most characteristic motifs of his paintings are related to Dubrovnik and to religion. Together with his wife, who is also a painter and embroidery artist, Vinko Bazdan took part in numerous humanitarian activities and group exhibitions. He also found his expression in making various kinds of traditional Dubrovnik souvenirs, all of which are hand-made. He is a member of ULIPUD Association of Fine and Applied Artists of Dubrovnik. Vinko Bazdan lives and works in Dubrovnik.

ANAMARIJA BEZEK

Anamarija Bezek was born in Dubrovnik in 1969. Her first contact with working with clay started in Lapad primary school in an art workshop led by Prof. Agnes Velikonja. From 1995 to 2000 she studied crafts from the pottery artist Karin Garmsen Fradl. In 2008 she stayed in Italy at the professional training under the mentorship of Prof. Giancarlo Marini. She completed the postgraduate studies in restoration and conservation in 2009. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

MARIJA BRAUTOVIĆ MARUSJA

Marija Brautović was born in Cavtat near Dubrovnik. She started painting as a little girl in Cavtat together with her friends, daughters of the famous painter Vlaho Bukovac. She obtained her initial education in painting from Prof. K. Strajnić. Her art revolves around landscape natural scenery: the sea, islands, cypresses, pine trees, olives, pomegranates, or blossoms. She has had numerous solo exhibitions in Dubrovnik, Cavtat, Pula, Zagreb and Mostar for almost thirty-five years. She participated in a number of group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

NIKO ČUČKOVIĆ

Dubrovnik designer Niko Čučković creates beautiful objects from glass. „It is magical to work with glass. Glass provides endless opportunities and ideas, especially with its grandeur of colors“. This is how the 35-year-old author briefly describes his love of glass. He is recognizable by the minimalist design with a strong approach to color that leaves a very distinct aesthetic impression truly inspired by the Mediterranean, the sun and the sea.

IVO GRBIĆ

Ivo Grbić was born in Dubrovnik in 1931. From 1946 to 1950 he attended evening courses in drawing under the guidance of the reputable Croatian painter Ivo Dulčić. In 1951 he enrolled in the Art Academy in Zagreb. He studied in the classes of T. Krizman, K. Hegedušić and M. Detoni. He graduated from the Department for Graphic Art in 1956. In 1958 he enrolled in the postgraduate course in painting (the class of A. Mezdjić). From 1960 to 1982 he was the instructor of graphic art at the School of Applied Arts in Zagreb. Ivo Grbiae has had 30 solo exhibitions so far and has contributed his work to numerous group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad.

JOSIP IVANOVIĆ

Josip Ivanović was born in Sarajevo in 1961. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo in 1988. He moved to Dubrovnik, where his creative process began. His most common motif is St. Blaise, the patron saint of Dubrovnik. He is also known for the special way of sculpting female nudes. However, is particularly known for his sculpture making technique. He created a large number of award statues, monuments, and theater sets. Ivanović has held over fifty solo and group exhibitions in forty cities in Croatia and abroad.

MARIJA JUG PECARIĆ

Marija Jug Pecarić was born in Dubrovnik. She graduated in 1961 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, class of Marin Tartaglia. Since 1974 she has been an active ceramic artist as well. She has exhibited her work at many individual and group exhibitions and received many awards and prizes in Croatia and abroad. Marija Jug Pecarić is an authentic painter with an outstanding education in arts, yet unique, honest and sincere in selection of her art expression, regardless of contemporary art experiments.

KRISTINA KOJAN GOLUŽA

Kristina Kojan Goluža was born in 1979 in Dubrovnik. In 1997 she graduated from the
School for Applied Arts and design in Zagreb. In 2002 she graduated from the University of Arts and industrial Design in Linz, Austria. In 2004 she obtained the qualification of the Master of fine arts and design, and in 2007 she completed a course in conservation and restoration in Italy. She is currently taking a doctoral degree programme at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. Kristina Kojan Goluža was awarded two times for her work. She has had several individual and about 20 group exhibitions, mostly abroad. Since 2006 she has been teaching at the University of Dubrovnik, Department of Art and Restoration Ceramics as an Assistant Professor.

MAJA KOVAČEVIĆ

Maja Kovačević was born in Dubrovnik in 1980. She finished the Luka Sorkočević School of Art in Dubrovnik, in the class of Prof. Josip Trostmann. She graduated in 2004 from the Academy of Arts Giussepe Assenza in Split, in the class of Prof. Udo Grossklaus. Maja Kovačević is a talented painter who brings a new impulse of figurative painting, based on the strong coloring and graphism. She has exhibited her work in a number of independent and group exhibitions in the country and abroad. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

VALTER KOŽUL

VALTER KOŽUL

Valter Kožul was born in Dubrovnik in 1967. He is a Doctor of Biotechnology, who completed his PhD thesis in 1999 at the University of Zagreb. He currently works at the Institute for Marine and Coastal Research in Dubrovnik. He actively began to paint after his graduation with, focusing mainly on oil on canvas. He usually paints sea creatures and with a twodimensional visual perception of images, he reveals the secret of his vision of underwater life.

As a member of DULU Dubrovnik Association of Artists, Valter Kožul has participated in more than 30 exhibitions and art colonies. He lives and works in Dubrovnik.

LENA KRAMARIĆ

Lena Kramarić was born in Zagreb in 1982. In 2001 she completed the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zagreb. She graduated in 2008 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb (painting) in the class of Prof. A. Rašić. In 2010 she enrolled in the Postgraduate study programme in painting at the same Academy. A youthful vivacity woven into the pulsing life is the main lodestar of her work, recognized by a peculiar form of figuration. Since 1999 she has had 13 individual exhibitions in Croatia and about 20 group exhibitions, both in the country and abroad. She is the member of HDLU Croatian Association of Artists and LIKUD Association of Fine Arts Artists of Croatia.

Anamarija Kriste was born in Trebinje in 1978. In 1997 she finished the Luka Sorkočević School of Art in Dubrovnik. She graduated in 2002 from the Academy of Fine Arts, University in Mostar (graphic design). In 1999 she was awarded as the best student and received a topstudent scholarship for at the University of Mostar. From 2001 to 2001 she stayed in Italy where she acquired professional training in graphic design. Anamarija Kriste has had 3 individual and 33 group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. She is the member of the Croatian Association of Artists (HDLU). She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

Neda Kuzek was born in Breza (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in 1958. In 1981 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo (painting), in the class of Prof. Mujezinoviæ and Prof. Perčinlić. Neda Kuzek has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. She has also had 6 solo exhibitions. She has been the member of the Croatian Association of Artists (HDLU) since 1982. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

Jagoda Lasić is the member of Dubrovnik Society. She obtained her education academically trained painters Viktor Vasiæ. LOREN LIGORIO

Loren Ligorio was born in Dubrovnik in 1955. He graduated from the Art History in Belgrade, but decided to dedicate himself to painting. He is most famous for his landscapes of Konal, the historical suburb of Dubrovnik, which has remained preserved only in some places, small streets and old houses. Ligorio belongs to the generation following the Dubrovnik colorists and is considered to be the member of the extended hand of Dubrovnik colorists. His frequent motives include River Rijeka Dubrovačka, churches, old facades, boats, plants. Ligorio belongs to the trefoil Škerlj-Ligorio-Baričević.

IRIS LOBAŠ KUKAVIČIĆ

Iris Lobaš Kukavičić was born in Dubrovnik in 1976. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Prof. Mira Vuce in 2001 (sculpting). She completed
her postgraduate studies in Široki Brijeg in the class of Prof. A. Kajinić. So far, she has exhibited in galleries in Dubrovnik, the Koprivnica Gallery, the Maritime Museum in Orebić and Marina in Korčula.

Ivana Lujak was born in Dubrovnik in 1982. In 2000 she completed the Luko Sorkoèeviæ School of Art (sculpture). Ivana Miloglav was born in Dubrovnik in 1986. She finished the Luko Sorkoèeviæ School of Art in Dubrovnik and in 2009 graduated in from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb (painting), in the class of Prof. Duje Jurić. She has exhibited her work in several group
exhibitions in Zagreb and in numerous independent exhibitions in Dubrovnik and Zagreb. Her paintings radiate the energy of youth and a powerfully pronounced spirit of experimental painting curiosity. Her paintings are not a trendy and propulsive segment
belonging to Croatian contemporary painting. Instead, they speak of the author's level of
developed perception, her rich imagination and a deep understanding of the world around her, above her an even below her.

Berta Miloš was born in Dubrovnik in 1972. In 1990 she graduated from the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zagreb. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

Romana Milutin Fabris was born in 1941 in Dubrovnik. In 1960 she graduated from the High School of Applied Arts in Split and Zagreb, and she graduated from the Academy of Applied Arts. She attended the "Sommer Akademie für Bildende Kunst" in Salzburg and completed her studies under the famous master Oskar Kokoschka. Since 1964, Romana has had more than one hundred solo exhibitions and has participated in more than one hundred and fifty joint exhibitions, both in Croatia and abroad. Romana is the member of HDLU and ULUPUD. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

Anamarija Obradović was born in 1983 in Dubrovnik. In 2002 she finished the School of

Ana Opaliæ was born in Dubrovnik in 1972. She graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb in 1997 (Film and TV Cinematography). She was awarded the best young photographer at the Croatian Photography Exhibition in 1997. She has been exhibiting her photographs since 1991 at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. Her photographs are part of the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, Art Gallery Split, Centre d'Art i Natura - Catalonia, Tyrone Guthrie Center- Ireland, Heinz Bossert Gallery Cologne, Centro Culturale Teresa Orsola Bussa de Rossi-Italy, and a few private collections. She lives and works in Zagreb.

Lucija PandžićPerojević was born in 1954 in Drinovci (Bosnia and Herzegovina), attended secondary school and studied at the Faculty of Economy in Osijek. In 1977
she moved to Dubrovnik. She has been constantly working on art ceramics since 1984. She completed the course in pottery making at the Visual Education Centre of Zagreb, taught by Dijana Sokolić, and continued her studies in Nove di Bassano, Italy. She worked as an art therapist in the Center for Persons with Special Needs in Dubrovnik for ten years. She is the member of the Croatian Association of Artists (HDLU). She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

LUKŠA PEKO

Lukša Peko was born in Dubrovnik in 1941. He received his first lessons in painting from painter Antun Masle and painter and art historian Kosta Stajnić. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1965 and completed his postgraduate studies in the class of Prof. Marijan Detoni in 1968. In the course of his studies he actively dealt with graphics, which resulted in the award granted by AFA Zagreb. His first exhibition took place in Dubrovnik, where he exhibited his work together with Josip Škrelj and Josip Trostmann. He lives and works in Dubrovnik.

BUCO PENDE

Ljubomir Buco Pende was born in 1948 in Dubrovnik. He began his painting career at a
tender age of 6. At the age of 17, Buco discovered Rock 'n' Roll, trading his paintbrush for a guitar, and joined a rock band. Pende later teamed up with Srdjan, a noted guitarist and the
duo became quite famous in ex-Yugoslavia, winning numerous awards. The duo initially performed rearranged popular hits, but later Buco began writing his own lyrics and composing the music. In the last 17 years, Pende has returned to his first love - painting, and has worked extensively in Dubrovnik, Düsseldorf and London..

Ana Požar Piplica was born in Knin in 1968. She graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1997. She makes fashion performances, installations, video-art and
photography. Originality is a very important component in her way of understanding the fashion and not just in terms of natural fabrics, ornaments and embroidery of Konavle region that she uses, or her inspiration in local nature and architecture, but also in the forms of her pieces. Since 1993 she has had many solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

Niko Radić was born in 1957 in Podgora, Dubrovnik littoral area. He graduated from the High School of commerce and craft, (department of house painting). He fought in the Croatian War of Independence, and in 2003 he retired as an officer of the Croatian Army. Interest in sculpture he developed i 1999, first under the tutorship of academically trained sculptors Josip Ivanoviæ and Ivo Jajić, and in 2001 he enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts
in Široki Brijeg, in painting class of Prof. Nikola Vučković.

Ivana Redžoviæ was born in Dubrovnik in 1982. In 2001 she finished the Luko Sorkoèeviæ School of Art, (art design). She graduated in 2008 from the Academy of Arts in Split, (art culture). With broad surfaces of the canvas she has been using, she belongs to figurative painters, a movement based on a traditional approach of drawing. Until now she has had one solo exhibition and several group exhibitions. Ivana Redžović is a member if the Croatian Association of Artists - HDLU. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

Antonia Ruskoviæ was born in Dubrovnik in 1973. She graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. She enrolled in the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1995 and graduated in 2000 in the class of Prof. Ðuro Seder. She has exhibited in many independent and group exhibitions. She lives and works in Konavle.

IZETA SABLJIĆ

Izeta Sabljić was born in Trebinje in 1942. She holds a Master's degree in Economic Sciences and is a journalist, and has been creating pottery since 1982. Her beginnings took place in the workshop Ispod Rašice under the mentorship of the famous ceramic artist Dragutin Fradl and his wife Karin Garmsen-Fradl. Thanks to her imagination in playing with clay and glazed colours, she reveals her artistic world. Izeta Sabljić has had several solo exhibitions in Dubrovnik, Mostar, Sarajevo, Trebinje, Stolac and Omiš. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

Ivana Dražić Selmani was born in Zagreb in 1972. She graduated in painting from the Academy of the Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1977. She has had six solo and about fifteen group exhibitions. She likes to explore new ways of expression, so her exhibitions can be real multimedia experiences. She is especially proud of being the runner-up in the competition for designing the flag of the Dubrovnik-Neretva county and the coat of arms in cooperation with another Dubrovnik artist.

Nikša Selmani was born in 1972 in Dubrovnik. In 1991 he finished secondary grammar school and in 1996 he completed his studies in Philosophy and History at the University of Zagreb. He wrote a dissertation on Friedrich Nietzsche's Philosophy in the tragic period of the Greeks. He currently works as an archive specialist at the National Archives in Dubrovnik. He taught Philosophy and Logic in high school in Dubrovnik. He lectured courses in media culture at the University of Dubrovnik. Nikša Selmani has been painting since 1996. He has exhibited in several group exhibitions in Dubrovnik and abroad. He is actively engaged in music playing in the group Valetudo Dubrovnik. He lives and works in Dubrovnik.

Tonko Smokvina was born in Dubrovnik in 1980. He attended the Luko Sorkoèeviæ School of Art where he specialized in paint design. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 2003, in the painting class of Prof. Eugen Kokot. Smokvina has participated in several group exhibitions and has recently begun displaying his work individually. Through his paintings, he conveys the subtle city energy through colors and rhythmic strokes that cause motifs to lose their clear contours of reality, while creating illusory, vibrant and luminescent forms. He lives and works in Dubrovnik.

VIKTOR ŠERBU

Viktor Šerbu was born in Dubrovnik in 1938. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1963. From 1965 to 1969 he lived in England and France. Since his return to Croatia in 1969, he has lived and worked in Dubrovnik. Šerbu is an exceedingly independent artist who has chosen to create intimate memoirs of the city within the solitude of his atelier. His artwork is a balanced synthesis of the traditional and the modern in Dubrovnik, constantly witnessing new and fresh experiences. He has had many group and independent exhibitions in Croatia and abroad.

Nikolina Šimunović was born in Dubrovnik in 1978. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 2002 in the class of prof. Zlatko Keser. She is the Member of the Croatian Association of Artists - HDLU. Nikolina Šimunoviæ has independently exhibited 10 times and participated in several group exhibitions in Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Prague. She lives and works in Zagreb.

VITOMIR ŠIMUNOVIĆ

Vitomir Šimunović was born in 1960 in Dubrovnik. He graduated from the Construction Technical School in Split. In his own words, he always liked “to play with stone“. Stone carving has always been his favourite hobby, but since
2004 people developed interest in his art works, so he started selling them. All his pieces are hand-made; he doesn't use any machines, not even for larger pieces of stone weighing more than 100 kilograms.

JOSIP ŠKERLJ

Josip Škerlj was born in Dubrovnik in 1941. He is one of the most important painters of Dubrovnik today. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. Together with painters Josip Pino Trostmann and Lukša Peko he belongs to the generation of the so-called “second Trefoil“ after Ivo Dulčić, Antun Masle and Ðuro Pulitika. His works belong to Dubrovnik colorism. Škerlj is an extremely productive artist, and has created several cycles of paintings to date. His most characteristic color is burgundy, following the tradition of Eugéne Delacroix.

JOSIP TROSTMANN

Josip Trostmann was born in Dubrovnik in 1936. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1963. By the motives and by typology, by passion and by devotion, Trostmann is the most contemporary painter of Dubrovnik. These properties and such prominence have made him a gem of the recent Croatian visual arts. He is an author who has never followed trends of fashion but has chosen to measure his progress on the inherent potentials of the classical technique (oil on canvas, watercolor, gouache) and on the energetic radiation of his motives.

IVANA JOVANOVIĆ TROSTMANN

She was born in Dubrovnik in 1966, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo in 1989, and obtained her Master's degree in Art History from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 2001. She is an art teacher, the member of HDLU (Croatian Association of Artists) since 1990. She has had several independent and a number of group exhibitions.

IVONA VLAŠIĆ

Ivona Vlašiæ was born in 1968 in Dubrovnik. From 1992 to 1994 she studied in Graz, Austria, at the Higher Technical School (painting section) in the class of Gerard Lojen. She is very occupied with both painting and video art. Ivona Vlašiæ is an artist who is constantly aware of and influenced by her spatial setting and who has the rare ability to integrate the cyclical, Mediterranean course of time into her artwork. She had several individual and more that 10 group exhibitions in Austria and Croatia. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

EVA ZVRKO

Eva Zvrko was born in 1981 in Dubrovnik. In 2000 she finished the Luko Sorkoèeviæ School of Art. The following year she completed the first year of the University Graduate School for painting in Ljubljana. In 2007 she graduated from the Academy of Arts in Split in the class of prof. Gorki Žuvela. Her expression is naturally imperative, full of secrets and demands, and demonstrates a sensible prudence of her artistic goal. She has had several solo exhibitions in Split and Dubrovnik. Eva Zvrko has also participated in several art colonies in: Trnovica, Opuzen, Kuna pelješka, Ston and Most na Soči in Slovenia. She lives and works in Dubrovnik.

20. JUBILARNA GODIŠNJICA LIBERTAS FOUNDATION
Proslava Feste u Los Angelesu

Sveti Vlaho Committee of Southern CaliforniaU hrvatskom Župskom centru Sv. Ante u srcu Los Angelesa održana je 20. kalifornijska Festa sv.Vlaha. Poslje svete mise upriličena je simbolična procesija predvođena ovogodišnjim festanjulima Šimom Zankijem i Peterom Hazdovcem. U sklopu ceremonije otvaranja 20. Feste, a nakon nastupa najmanjih folklorne skupine iz škole Croatian Children school, uzvanicima su se obratili počasni gosti - Mate Bižaca, župnik, gradonačelnik Grada Dubrovnika Andro Vlahušić, te Ilija Želalić, generalni konzul RH u Los Angelesu.

Posebni gost na Festi sv. Vlaha bio je Michael Heard, potpredsjednik Twentieth Century Fox za filmske produkcije sa suprugom.

I ove godine održala se humanitarna prodajna izložba dubrovačkih umjetnika koji su donirali svoja djela, a sredstva su namijenjena stipendijama dubrovačkih učenika i studenata slabijeg imovinskog stanja.
